Group of theatre of teachers
IES Mediterrània collaborates, along with IES Pere Mª Orts i Bosch and the rest of secondary schools osf Benidorm, in the only group of Spanish theatre (and we suspect that also in the whole world) formed exclusively by high school teachers: Tossal Teatre. This group of theatre was formed in the year 1992, always under the direction of the head of department of Spanish Language and Literature Mr. Manuel Palazón. In the first theatre stagings already appeared teachers of our secondary school (although they were in IES Pere Mª Orts i Bosch then), for example our Headmistress Ms Isabel Montiel and Mr Luis González , our present Head of Studies.
Teachers of the differnt secondary schools of Benidorm (Beatriu Fajardo, Bernat d'en Sarrià, L'Almadrava, Pere Mª Orts i Bosch and our Mediterrània), have been part of the group through the last 15 years, but it has always maintained as place of rehearsals and of premières the assembly hall of IES Pere Mª, where it has prepared, produced and premiered a total of 15 different plays, one every school year, in a literary range that goes from the classical plays of the XVIth and XVIIth centuries to contemporary ones. Teachers of different subjects of IES Mediterrània have participated in Tossal Teatre through these years: from Physical Education to Technology ( Miss Anna Olivares , Mr José Miguel López , Miss Ariel Sancho, Mr Alberto Méndez "Tucho", Miss Antonia Varela , Miss Cristina Calvo , Miss Noelia Ferri , Miss Leonor Molina , Miss Paqui Ribes, Mr José Antonio Corral, Mr Miguel Ángel Viana, ...).
During the present year 2007/08, the group is formed by diverse teachers of IES Pere Mª Orts i Bosch, Bernat de Sarrià and our Mediterrània, which contributes with this teachers. That is to say:
Mr David Sabater : Music Teacher, already in his fifth staging.
Mr Nicolás Pardo : Teacher of Spanish Language and Literature and of theatre, already in his eleventh staging.
After beginning the present school year with the play that we were producing last year ("The five warnings of Satan") and with which we went, as every year, on tour along The Manchuela (La Roda, Casasimarro), the group has finally decided to stage "Ladies and Gentlemen " by the canary writer Ángel Camacho, whose premiere will be in March, 2008 in the assembly hall of IES Pere Mª Orts i Bosch.
During the year 2008 we will show our students the work carried out, inviting them to contemplate it in our theatre–assembly hall, and we hope that we have already finished the adaptation (backdrop, dais, lights and sound, dressing room,…) by then.
