Group of theatre of teachers

IES Mediterrània collaborates, with IES Pere Mª Orts i Bosch, LA ESCUELA OFICIAL DE IDIOMAS and the rest of secondary schools of Benidorm, in the only group of Spanish theatre (and we suspect that also in the whole world) formed exclusively by high school teachers: Tossal Teatre. This group of theatre was formed in 1992, always under the direction of the head of Spanish Language and Literature department Mr. Manuel Palazón. Some teachers of our secondary school appeared in the first plays (although they were in IES Pere Mª Orts i Bosch then), for example our former Headmistress Ms Isabel Montiel and Mr Luis González , our present Headmaster.

Teachers of the different secondary schools of Benidorm (Beatriu Fajardo, Bernat d'en Sarrià, L'Almadrava, Pere Mª Orts i Bosch, LA ESCUELA OFICIAL DE IDIOMAS and our Mediterrània), have been part of the group for the last 18 years, but it has always maintained as place of rehearsals and of premières the assembly hall of IES Pere Mª, where a total of 18 different plays have been prepared, produced and premiered , one every school year, in a literary range that goes from the classical plays of the XVIth and XVIIth centuries to contemporary ones. Teachers of different subjects of IES Mediterrània have taken part in Tossal Teatre for these years: from Physical Education to Technology ( Miss Anna Olivares , Mr José Miguel López , Miss Ariel Sancho, Mr Alberto Méndez "Tucho", Miss Antonia Varela , Miss Cristina Calvo , Miss Noelia Ferri , Miss Leonor Molina , Miss Paqui Ribes, Mr José Antonio Corral, Mr Miguel Ángel Viana, Mr David Sabater...).

This school year 20010/11, the group is formed by several teachers of IES Pere Mª Orts i Bosch and our Mediterrània, which contributes with these teachers. That is to say:

Mr Nicolás Pardo : Teacher of Spanish Language and Literature and of theatre, already in his thirteenth staging.
Mr José Miguel López: Teacher of Mathematics, coming back. It is his fourth staging.
Miss Isabel Llopis: Teacher of Spanish Language and Literature, newcomer in School.
Miss Amel Benbernou: Teacher of French, newcomer too.

For this year, the group has decided to set the play 'Darling, you aren't a hopeless case', one of Ángel Camacho, a writer from Tenerife. The premiere will probably take place at the end of the first term in the multiuses room of our institute in February and in the second term we will put it in scene in IES 'Pere M.ª Orts i Bosch' assembly hall on March in order to celebrate the Mondial Day of Theatre (March the 27th).
